A Fourth Year Medical Student raising awareness about the deadly cervical cancer taking more lives of women in Sierra Leone.

As World Health Organization continue to support countries in the fight against cervical cancer ,it rather unfortunate that we continue to lose more lives .
According to World Health Organization ,” Cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women with an estimated 570,000 new cases in 2018 representing 6.6% of all female cancers. Approximately 90% of deaths from cervical cancer occurred in low- and middle-income countries. The high mortality rate from cervical cancer globally could be reduced through a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, early diagnosis, effective screening and treatment programmes. There are currently vaccines that protect against common cancer-causing types of human papilloma virus and can significantly reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
Doreen Arche-Campbell a fourth year student from college of medicine and Allied Health sciences (COMAHS) started this initiative when she participated in the Miss COMAHS beauty pageant few months ago at Family kingdom. She didn’t had a topic (platform ) as a project to participate in the Miss COMAHS beauty pageant show ,the topic was raised by a friend (Tity Mansaray ) . After discussing on the issue and the less awareness about it ,she decided to use it as her project . Then realized that it out of no education and awareness women get infected and die .
She decided to continue her research on it and raise more awareness in schools and every event she witnessed to inform women and girls about it . Her first social media post on Facebook brought more passion into activism , when a friend privately message her about her mother been a victim and losing her few days ago because she had no knowledge about it when the disease started. By the time she started treatment it was too late for her to be cure .

She is kindly calling on all health workers ,Ministry of Health and sanitation ,Non Profit Organizations and the International bodies to raise more awareness and fund more projects about cervical cancer for early diagnosis and for treatment to save more women in Sierra Leone .
